New metrics of site quality from Yandex – SQI

Data of thematic index of citation (TIC) of Yandex have not been updated for more than a month already. It was replaced by the SQI or the site quality index.

TIC was introduced almost 20 years ago. Of course, the Network has undergone a number of changes over this period: SEO links have lost relevance; social networks, as well as mobile resources, have gained popularity. In its era, TIC determined the authority of the site based on the frequency of links to it from third-party resources. Now, links are not the main and not the only indicator of credibility and quality. For this purpose, a new metric - SQI, which takes into account other qualitative aspects, was launched.

It is important to understand that SQI is not a new algorithm at all. This is an indicator of the usefulness of the resource. And, if a site had a high TIC, then this does not guarantee a high SQI. These metrics are different from each other, where TIC is link, and SQI is quality.

The SQI Yandex parameter has not yet been assigned to resources yet, but the following characteristics will definitely influence it:

It should be understood that the concept of quality of a resource for each topic is different. For example, an online shop should be full of detailed information about a product, service and delivery, while a news portal or an informative resource should be full of detailed texts.

And one more thing. SQI in no way affects the position of the site in Yandex. This is the cause, not the effect. This indicator helps to understand why the resource loses to competitors or wins them. SQI is an indicator of the current position of the resource.

How to raise the rating of the SQI?

Many factors affect the position of a resource, but in order to increase SQI, attention should be paid to the behavioral factor and the link profile. In addition, the data of social networks can signal about the quality of the resource.

  1. SQI shows how useful the resource is, so it is not worth spending time on driving up of the numbers of this indicator. SQI will grow if the site will be improved.

  5. High SQI does not mean high traffic. This is a recognition of the quality by Yandex, but not an increase of traffic.

  7. SQI is a useful and important indicator, which, unlike TIC, is worth paying attention to.
  8. SQI can be reset to zero, which indicates the possibility of its optimization.
